Where Do Toronto Locals Like to Go to Eat?

If you’re looking at homes for sale in Toronto, you better consider yourself a foodie – or at least be open to becoming one.

With 7,500 restaurants across 160 neighborhoods, Toronto is a food lovers’ paradise.

You’ll find an array of fare to whet your appetite, whether it’s fast casual or fine dining.

These are some of the best places to eat in Toronto.

Alo (163 Spadina Avenue)

French elements are woven throughout the intercontinental menu here. It’s a good idea to get reservations on this third-floor hot spot, or you’ll have to take your chances at the bar that invites walk-ins only.

Alo has a regularly changing tasting menu with meticulously plated meals. These multi-course menus are blind, so picky eaters may not find this the best option.

You can also choose to sit at the adjacent Barroom, where the menu is a la carte and cocktails are flowing.

Centre Street Deli (1136 Centre Street, Thornhill)

Looking for a quick bite to eat or somewhere casual to tuck into a sandwich? Centre Street serves some of the best smoked meat in Toronto on its sandwiches along with menu items like chopped liver and kishke, a chicken fat and matzo meal sausage.

The Roti Hut (351 Pitfield Road, Scarborough)

This establishment has been part of the culinary landscape for almost four decades.  Chef owner Satee Beharry has carved out a dedicated local following the likes of celebrity chefs today.

Here you’ll find West Indian favorites like oxtail curry, jerk chicken, and tamarind balls.

Beach Hill Smokehouse (various locations)

Looking for Texas barbecue north of the border? Look no farther.

There are three Beach Hill locations that serve fall-off-the-bone-good meats. Enjoy juicy meats in sandwiches named after Texan locales like The Lockhart or The Austin.

Order large servings for parties of four to six and enjoy classic Texas barbecue side dishes like smoked baked beans and poblano coleslaw.

Mildred’s Temple Kitchen (85 Hanna Avenue)

This is the best brunch spot for your lazy Sunday.

Mildred’s dishes are made with quality locally-sourced ingredients in an atmosphere of warmth, despite the bright industrial décor.

The brunch menu includes double smoked rosemary bacon, scones, shakshuka, huevos monty, and chorizo sausage.

Kanto by Tita Flips (various locations)

The bold flavors in this Filipino restaurant will have your taste buds doing flips.

The made-to-order Filipino street food menu includes classic comforts like Lumpia Shanghai, Lechon Kawali, Arroz Caldo, and Halo-Halo.

Richmond Station (1 Richmond Street West)

This neighborhood eatery is set in the bustling downtown, a place to slow the day down over good eats.

Their committed staff focuses on relaxed hospitality and great ingredients.

The menu includes sharing plates of halibut croquettes or duck liver pate. You can order your own plate of garden squash cavatelli or chickpea panisse.

Seven Lives (72 Kensington Avenue)

There is almost always a line here, and for good reason.

This Mexican eatery is great to pop in for a bit or grab takeout. The fish tacos often land on best food lists in the city and the Camarones a la Diabla are worth breaking a sweat over.
